My understanding is that,
Adding Lead Sulfate to Petrol is cheaper than re-refining 'catalytic
cracking' to get PULP.
Lead is being phased out of various products because it can affect the
development of young people and is permantly stored in the body and the
environment. In high doses lead can cause mental problems - 'As mad as a
Hatter' (Historically Hat makers used Lead to cure felt - or something)
But I am not a Greenie, I just want my car to go hard, petrol to be cheap
and Police to look the other way.
If we must be environmentally sensitive then you can just buy Regular
unleaded and make or buy additives.
Toluene can be used to increase the RON of Petrol, and a little bit of ATF
can be added as a cleaning agent. There is a recipe floating around
somewhere.
I don't know what upper cylinder lubricants are made from (Graphite?).
There are a few ChemEng types on the list
Perhaps they know some more.
Regards,
Nick
