I've seen magnetically operated switches hidden away that are activated
when a magnet on your keys is run past a reed switch. Could be used with
an ignition cut or fuel line solenoid so the would be thief could only
go a small distance, although a downside would be a possible engine
air/fuel lean out. Ignition wise you'd need to make part of the ignition
coil secure from any form of bridging across terminals, then the
activation would need some form of encoding. You could always use fibre
optic cable to confuse them too. Just make sure the end terminals are in
secure locations. If they pull the cable out they can't short the cable
to complete the circuit!
Just thinking out loud. :)
Hey, I just found out that i was born at 5:10PM how cool is that!
I have a good datsun security story about a mechanic friend that made me
laugh...We were working on his rally car one day it got late and I went
home and left him to pack up the tools in his open garage. The next day
I get a call saying he cant start the thing and he'd been trying for
over an hour without success.
So I turn up and he explains the problem, the starter turns over but she
won't fire. So I ask if he checked this and that and he replies yeah,
done that. First thing I do is pull the dizzy cap, yeah the cap looks
good but hey isnt there supposed to be a rotor button in there! The dill
had removed the rotor button so that noone could steal it! Including
himself!
