I bought a Renault 11 Turbo (same as R5 GT turbo) which has an intercooled
blow through carb setup as standard on a 1400cc pushrod motor. As the engine
is very similar to the A series it should be ideal to use the complete setup
from the Renault. My plan is to cut the carb mounting flange from the
Renault intake and weld it to the A14 one. The Turbo on the Renault is
positioned to the left of the (transverse) engine with the mounting flange
vertical. This means that with the flange horizontal on the RWD layout the
dump points upward but the bolt pattern looks as though I can unbolt it and
reverse it to point down. So you see...apart from the intake which should be
simple... the only major fabrication is the exhaust manifold (and system).
The R 5/11 turbo can be made to develop some serious horsepower. Around 230
for street use and as much as 350 on the track. I figure this setup would be
able to get 150-160hp from an A14 at least. I don't know how strong the A
series is compared to the Renault.
Oh and BTW...yeah, yeah I know it's horrid Renault parts :-) But
hey...Renault own 35% of Nissan don't they? :-) Therefor 35% of my Datsun
can be Renault, right?
Cheers,
Eddie
