Subject: Re: BALANCE part 2

Fellow Datsun Enthusiasts

First of all, I would like to say thanks to all the people who responded to
'BALANCE part 1'. Your advice is valuable and will save me time and money. I
hope that one day I can return the favour!

I have a few more questions:-

(a) What is the best way to bleed the brake system on a 1600 after
installing a new master cylinder ( I have tried for hours, but the pedal
goes to the floor, and I am getting quiet frustrated!!)

First bleed the air off in the master cylinder of you have a Tokico or
Nabco. If you don't have a visibleeder, then best with two ppl, one pedal
pushing down and hold while the other works the bleeder open then shut.
Start left rear, right rear, front left and finally front right. If it
doesn't bleed easily, then the master cylinder probably isn't priming,
usually it has the return holes in the bottom of the reservoir blocked with
grunge.

(b) My rear left disc makes a grating sound every revolution of the wheel. I
initially thought it was a warped disc, but I have machined a new disc from
another scorpion, and the problem still exists. I tried to replace the
bearings for the hub recently but the old ones would'nt come out. Could my
repeated hammering of the bearings damaged them and somehow caused this
annoying problem???

Quite likely, although if you haven't been able to get pressure into the
calliper then the pads may not be centred and the rotor is touching the
calliper. You could have damaged the axle or the bearings, depends on how
you hammered - I hope you're talking slide hammer and not Mexican screw
driver type. I have a slide hammer with a Datto bolt pattern that you can
borrow to change your bearings, I've never had a failure in over 25 yrs with
this baby.

(c) Could anyone recommend a good brake person in ACT who could install my
proportioning valve in a pro manner?(preferably someone who knows Datsuns- I
am sick of so-called 'mechanics' who know jack-shit, try and rip me off, and
treat me like an idiot-I own a 1600,not a Gemini!!).

pass

regards
Terry
