Yes and no to what your saying. The pads are not the scource of the clamping
pressure. The pistons are. The clamping pressure is distributed over the pad
(hopefully evenly). So to me this means if the piston size remains the same
then the clamping force per unit area (say in cm2) on a smaller surface area
pad is more than on a larger surface area pad. 

This is where your on the ball. A bigger pad has more heat capacity than a
smaller pad. So if you use a bigger surface area pad it will take relatively
longer to heat up so less fade. This is where testing comes into it as Brake
pads have different heat ranges where they work best. To hot and you get
fade to cool and not as effective (ever tried to stop hard with cold metal
kings then you'll know what I mean).

Nissan 4-spot conversion. Z32 300zx calipers are 3.75cm diameter pistons (X4
so total piston area of 44.18cm2). Bigger pad area, light weight. Downside
hard to fit and cost.

Would'nt the larger surface area of the Hilux/volvo/200B/Commodore pad have 
a effect on clamping force? If not clamping force,what about heat 
dispertion? If there so efficient, why don't more people use them instead of

the typical Magna/Commodore, 200B, or Hilux/Volvo/Nissan 4-spot conversions?
