Diarmuid,
The conversion that you're talking about is usually done with 265mm Magna
TM, TN or TP rotors. The struts required for this conversion are the late
model 180B as the bolt spacing on VL Turbo callipers is only 3" (76.2mm).
The centre hole on the Magna rotors is machined out from 69mm to 73mm (1600
and early 180B axles are only 68mm) and also redrilled to suit the Datsun
hub which is fairly straight forward. Some ppl have used the early struts
and tack welded the rotors 1mm just to centre them, not my preferred option
but still seems to work. IMHO it's a good mid cost conversion, wide range of
pads, Ultimates etc.
A later modification to this method that could work although I haven't seen
it done (only talked about here) is to use the Magna rotors with 200B struts
and later model 3.5" (88.9mm) Holden callipers. I'm not sure if there are
offset issues with this but it should give good stoppers as the late model
callipers are a floating twin spot (pistons on the same side) and you still
get a good range of pads.
Anyone on the list (and still reading this far) used the late model Holden
callipers?
regards
Terry

Subject: Re: brakes
While we're on the subject of brakes, is there much information around on
the Verada vented disks/VL Turbo callipers? I haven't been able to find
much on websites/archives.
Since my disks need replacing, I was going to weigh up the cost of other
upgrades. I'm currently running 240K GT struts at the front, with twin
spot Sumitomos. Most verada/VL conversions seem to use 180/200B struts -
can it be done on 240K? ...and what extra machining/custum brackets are
required to fit the disks/callipers.
Thanks,
Diarmuid Tyson
