Graeme,
Your conversion is very popular in the US for 510's although a lot of ppl on
the Birds list are all that exited about it.
Did you have any problems with fitting the Aussie version 280ZX struts to
your 1600?
I've put a few thoughts together on this conversion in the past and this is
why I don't like it all that much either.
A stock 1600 hub is 40mm wide and the stock track is 50.4" (SSS track is
51.4"), other Datto hubs are 43mm (Bluebird), R31, 240K, 200B etc are all
48mm (few exceptions that are smaller but I'll ignore them). A stock 1600
wheel has a backspace of 3 15/16" or ~100mm. So, with a 48mm hub and a 6"
rim (240KGT), the 1600 track is 52.4" which is the max legal track except in
Vic & Qld where RTA uses the stock 1600 + 1" for rego, but seeing as the
bearing size also has gone up from 68mm to 73mm no problems in most places.
Now a Zed C130 has 29mm wide hubs so with the same wheels the track will be
19mm (3/4") narrower and if you use a wheel such as a TRX 15" which has 19mm
more backspace than a 240KGT wheel (also very typical offset that most ROH
wheels have these days to suit the 1600) the track will be another 3/4"
narrower and the wheel will be very close to the strut, so the net track
increase by using 6" rims is 1/2" over stock. I've seen a few Dattos set up
like this and they handle OK, but nothing like with a 200B strut and 240KGT
wheels, but the brakes are exceptionally good.
The Zed strut conversion INHO is great as long as you have the correct
offset wheels, unfortunately hard to find in Aus.

Terry

The bluebird/pintara front hub will give more positive offset, ie; wider
track. I am using 280zx struts, sillilar size vented discs and calipers,
but has the opposite effect on offset, that allows my tyre/rim to be very
close to the strut.
Even moreso than the standard 1600 offset.
Graeme.
