Ryan,
If your cam is a billet you should be able to use std lash pads (3mm thick).
If your cam is a regrind, the top surface of you head has been surfaced, you
are using cam tower spacers, you have different valve lengths or seats etc
etc etc. Then lash clearances have to be worked out on a valve by valve
basis. Eg my lash pad clearances are as follows starting from number one
exhaust valve to number four exhaust valve. 260, 260, 240, 240, 250, 250,
250 and 240 (all in thou).
You do this by using engineers dye or permanent marker pen to cover the
rocker arm wipe surface. Then install the rocker arm and adjust rocker pivot
clearance to cold clearance specs. Turn the cam a full rotation then remove
rocker arm and inspect the wipe pattern. The cam should remove the ink from
the center section of the pad. It is right when you have an equal amount of
ink on both sides of the cam wipe. If the wipe runs off the valve side of
the rocker pad you will stuff the nose of your cam lobe pretty quickly. You
adjust the position of the wipe by using differnet thickness lash pads until
you get it right. A good rule of thumb to start with before you do the above
is to have the rocker horizontal after adjustment. Then start with the ink.
Regards
Trev
PS My wade 76 billet cam had to be reground as I did not know how to do the
above the first time round.
