Cheepest and most redily available source for L series blocks come from Pick

mate I know exactly what you mean ...
I have had 2 weeks off between changing jobs and I spent close to 85% of
that time working on my 1600, trying to get it working again after having a
gasket go in the timing cover...
I did all the engine up nicley and new gaskets everywhere, timing chain,
guides, new paint, detailed engine bay. After full contructing it again, it
doesn't start, after a week of fiddling and checking with mates, I took it
to a sparky who found that my starter motor had no brushes whatsoever, so he
replaced those, axed a dodgy brother relay on the strut tower and she
started up fine after a few changes to the distributor plug sequence.
To my releif the car ran very well for its first run in but only 30 min
later I was driving and bad idle, no power and the car was over heating...
I checked the oil cap and there it was again ... CHOCOLATE MILKSHAKE!!
ARRRHHHHHH!!!!! I crawled the car home and went out the back yard to find
something to release my frustration on, I found the old cubby house and it
copped a thrashing...
Anyway, seems after what i've done to it that the block has some corrosion
in it and the water jaket is leaking into the oil. TIME FOR A NEW BLOCK says
me, so I'd like to know if anyone has a 'reliable', 'cheap' L18 they want to
sell/give away in the Sydney area. It doesn't need to have a good head or
any carburration, just a solid block.
ELSE I'D BE WILLING TO SELL THE OLD GIRL AS SHE IS WITH REGO AND MANY MODS,
JUST EMAIL ME AND I'LL GIVE YOU THE DETAILS.

Ahh the highs and lows of owning a datto. Today is a low :( Took the ol
1200 for a spin up to the fuel station to fill her up and on the way back i
gave it a squirt around a corner. 1st was smokin up pretty hard and 2nd
never came around. Missed the gear and revved the crap out of the A14.
Rolled to a stop only to hear a knocking noise from under the hood. Oh shit
here we go!! Got out and had a look and nothing noticbly wrong except a big
ass knock. So a crawled home with the engine still running well. There was
no missing or other noises just a knock. I pulled the rocker cover off to
check the pushrods, rocker arms, vlaves and valve springs and everything
looked spot on. I went to turn it over with a shifter on the crank nut (or
whatever u call it) and it was loose as a goose. I turned the crank over
and it feels like the crank is sorta loose. Could be the main bearings??
Time for a bottom end rebuild i think! Just wasnt expecting to do it this
soon!! Any ideas people??
