Another method is to use a screwdriver (the largest in those cheap 
screwdriver kits) wedge it down the gap between the two sides of the chain 
handle first, may require a bit of a light tap with a hammer
as it will be a tight fit, a pair of multigrips may be required to remove it 
after the engine is back together. MAKE sure it stays there while u pull the 
head off.....(thanx paddy).......Tod

P.s. do not forget to set the engine to tdc b4 pulling it apart and mark the 
chain and sproket with liquid paper so u can align it when u put it back 
together.
