Listers,
Ha, I like it, just go to another rego office who haven't read the head
office memos for a month.
The reduction in oversize transplants crap has started to happen in the ACT
too, I was talking to them recently and they told me that an 1800cc inline 4
cyl is the max "over the pits" upgrade for a 1600 as under the National
Roads Guidelines some idiot has deemed that the engineering level of a road
registered car (you'd immediately think they were talking about a Hyundai
but it seems not) can only safely handle a 12.5% increase in cubic capacity
and it would seem that you can't change the engine block configuration
either ( i.e. no 1.5 litre v8's). He went on to inform me that "This change
in legislation is designed to stop young revheads dropping V8's into their
Datsun 1600's!" - yeah right, how many V8 1600 are registered in the ACT -
Answer 1.
So I asked him about replacing a L16 Datto with a Toyota 4A-GE (NA 1600cc 4
cyl inline 20 valve and incidentally puts out more KWs than a L20B puts out
in HP)? Answer - "unless the conversion requires structural changes to the
chassis then you would just present to the pits for a ruling and if it was
done properly I couldn't see how you will have a problem under this ruling."
This is a joke, these clowns have nfi what they are doing but they make or
at least interpret the law of the land. I read recently that there is a big
push going on again in the US (California at this stage) again for the
government to "buy back" all road registered vehicle pre 1970 - the
suggested amount is $US2500. This is of concern to us over here as well as
if this gets off the ground then it will be very quickly grabbed by the
average greenie for sure.
regards
Terry (stepping down of soapbox)

Subject: Re: Registering 1600 with L20 in Melb (Cam)
My mate had some problems getting his L20 regestered in melb without an
engineers, he thaught he had no hope... one of his mates told him to try all
the vic roads, he got it through eventually (Greensbough Vic Roads) but he
did have to try about 4 of them. Its worth a try before you get an engineers
anyway!
Whats the go if you let your regestation lapse is it like a roadworthy or do
you have to get a new engineers?
thanx rich
