Simon,
Have you driven this with the ign timing at 25 deg? What's it go like? good,
bad, ugly, detonate?
Bit tricky to know what's wrong with this one if there is anything other
than things not lining up. If it really is out that far it sounds to me like
either the cam timing wheel or the drive shaft isn't dialled in correctly.
Is the crank pulley and the timing cover off the same engine - usually
around 45 deg difference if they're not a match so I don't think this is the
problem.
At TDC #1 is the dizzy drive slot roughly inline with the dizzy mounting
screw holes on the timing cover and is the 1/2 moon narrow side to the front
of the engine.
With webers you have blocked up the vac advance, check the mechanical
advance is working in the dizzy, grab the shaft (by the rotor button) and
make sure you can turn it and then it returns to the home position.

Subject: tunning problems
I have finnished a two year rebuild and am having some tunning problems. I
have a l20b it has flat top pistons and that is about it. I have a 2lt head
It has been ported and polished with bigger valves. It has a decent cut cam
which I have used in other engines and a set of 48 mm webbers. The problem
is it will only run well at about 25 deg before top dead center.Any less and
it just starts to missfire. I have had the colour tune on it and the carbies
are woring fine. I have double checked everything. I just thought it was
strange to be so retarded. At this setting it does crack and go real well.
Does anyone have any ideas as to why this is running like this and is this
alright or not. The only thing that is different form my last engine set up
is the head and carbies. before I had a a87 head which was much higher
compresion. Would this have anything to do with it? Any advice would be
greatly appreciated as I am going nuts and am getting quite angry with it.
Simon
