Two electrical switches operated by the selectors would make it a post 1979
model gear box. The first switch is reversing lights, the second switch was
a top gear switch for the anti pollution carb. I cant think of any third
switch - are you sure its intended to be fitted with a third switch, or has
somebody replaced a lost bolt with a switch to fill the hole?

car and when i spun either wheel the other one didn't move at all only when
in gear and then it spun the opposite direction, so i must have an open
diff.
