I personally would buy a mig, but It really depends on how much/ what you plan to do.
here are my thoughts Mig is only really easier if you can get the settings right for the weld. Mig you usually need a gas, stick you dont' , ie mig has ongoing costs of bottle hire. The weld wire (mig) is cheaper than rods (stick) if you plan to do alot of welding. MIg usually doesnt produce a slag, stick depending on the rod ( and how good you are) you spend more time with a chipping hammer that with the welder. I Could I recommend checking out your local tafe to see if youe run night time welding courses. I have just finished one cost about $250/per semester. and if you get to know the teachers well, they ussally dont mind if you wander in on a different night there is a class and uses the gear, ( and probably even help) Cheers, Steve. ----- Original Message ----- From: " Adam Jackson" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Saturday, November 17, 2001 8:33 PM Subject: off topic : welding equipment > Guys, i'm looking at buying a welder, either stick or mig. > > I'm a complete novice when it comes to welding so i thought i'd ask the > group which type of welder would be best for seam welding, patching panels > and basically anything car related i suppose. > > >From what i've found so far a mig seems to be the way to go (nice even long > welds and easier to use for novices) but they are nearly 3 times the price > of a stick welder. > > I don't mind spending the extra to get a mig welder, but i'd prefer (as > anyone would) to get the appropriate welder. > > Any help would be greatly appreciated > cheers, > Adam > > > --membersozdat------------------------------------------------------- OZDAT Mailing List Please Note:- Send (un)subscribe requests to [EMAIL PROTECTED] Send submissions to [EMAIL PROTECTED] No unauthorised redistribution of this email http://www.ozdat.com/ozdatonline/index.htm http://www.ozdat.com/ozdatonline/listindex.html http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/ ---------------------------------------------------------------------
