Mick, I believe they are pretty much useless these days unless you have the car it was logged in. I logged my alloy cage in two cars. One that I am restoring and another that is my interum race car. The cage was $1200, so I wanted my moneys worth out of it.
At state racing level they won't let you run with an alloy cage unless the car has a log book. It's getting harder at club level too. Most of the time they don't ask and are happier that you have some rollover protection. Unfortunately even at club level they are tightening up due to the Tod Wilkes case. All the organisers are a bit toey and worried at the moment because of it. Good to have you back on the list.
