Andrew,

The symptoms with the Bosch alternator suggest that the regulator is on the
way out and it is replaceable. In summer time running around the M on the
stock gauge is OK, the test is when you go up a long hill whether or not the
temp increases appreciably. A cooling system with a thermo fan should only
run a little warmer at low speeds or stopped at lights before the fan kicks
in and then it will return to normal. When you're on the move there should
be very little difference if you radiator and thermostat are in good
condition.

regards
Terry

Subject: Temp and charging q's..

Hi everyone,

I have replaced my alternator with a bosch one (from an r31). But the
charge light now stays on until I give it a little rev (to ~2000 RPM)
before turning off. with the old (lucas) alt the charge light turned off
a second after startup. Does this mean my new alternator has issues??

Also, I have a thermofan controlled by a thermo switch from a bluebird -
this results in a running temp of around the 'M' mark on the gauge. Is
this acceptable??

Thanks heaps all
Andrew
