Justin,

Between the two bolts there is a spigot joint to acurately locate the strut and 
ball-joint and take all the horizontal loads to prevent any bending forces in the 
bolts.

The Nissan R31/Bluebird spigot has a larger diameter than the early Datsun one.

You need to make a 5mm thick ring spacer to interface these two designs, I forget the 
exact dims. Check the archive.

I don't recommend running without these spacers. They are a major safety item.
