I used to own a Mk 1 Escort, and it had leaf rear end. You have a few options. You can get 'reversed' leaf springs were the bush eyelets that are at each end sit on the bottom side of the leaf instead of the top, therefore giving the car a lower stance. Apparently this is better than lowering blocks, which cause axle tramp.

On my car I removed the rubber from were the leaf mounts to the diff. I also removed  the smallest leaf . This method I got from a Escort rally-prep book written by engineers from the English Boughrom factory, the guys who built the Escorts that Ari Vatinen drove in the 70`s and 80`s. It is a proven method that reduces play in the rear end for more positive handling.

Or you could just buy a IRS sedan.................

>The leaf springs on the back of the wagon are nearly flat as it is.
