Insurance wasn't at the top of my list but yeah thats one damn good reason too!
I was thinking more of living to your 21st. I scared the crap out of myself a few times in the old weber l20b and that was hardly powerful. like the time I gave it a bootful around a corner in the wet and the other time I top speed tested it. well glad I was doing all that in a non-powerful car. these days with the turbo motor I can reach the top speed I did in the old motor inbetween traffic lights. and its way off the power of an sr20det!!
I just can't imagine some kid fresh off his Ls hopping in a car with so much power!! I'm glad my driving skills developed in a low power car for me to be able to handle a turbo car.

Zac,

That's a very familiar scenario. My oldest just turned 17 and had this idea that he wanted a turbo for his first car, he's got a good amount put away but no regular income to speak of and still in College. I gave him Shannon's ph number to check insurance as he wouldn't believe me what it costs these days. He had the hots for a SR20DET Silvia,  how does $4000 to insure it grab you with an excess that would make your eyes water, $800 with $1200 excess for the NA Sylvia which is more in the ball park. All they did is double the excess on my insurance while he drives mine on L's which is pretty good but it changes when they go solo. It's a bit hard for boys until they turn 21 to get affordable insurance, girls can get turbo insurance far cheaper - go figure that out?

regards
Terry

Hey,

I'm looking for a first car, and im keen on the datto 1600. Im also cosidering factoring in a sr20det conversion to my budget. If anyone has a sedan for sale, i'd be interested. really im looking for something with a straight body, little rust and a pretty neat interior to get me started. Dont really mind the engine, if one at all. If i did do a conversion, id probably get a fitting kit... and maybe even the wiring done professionally, as I lack the expertise. Anyone done this conversion before? How much is this gonna cost me, im guessing (hoping) around $7k (including upgraded brakes etc.) for a neat little car that goes hard. Is this unrealistic? Also... would this be feasable in a 1600 wagon? thatd be nuts.. any major differences?

Thanks, hope my questions arent too ridiculous :P

Josh
