Hey Nick,
You finally got the z18 up and going - congrats!! I wanta see you at the nat's asap.. As for your cooling system i reckon theres nothing better than a good bloody radiator. Going on many a blown head gaskets experience. The rad. i had in mine b4 i went was awesome. It was a Triumph TR7 core. 3 row core perfect size, not too thick, Good number of fins per square inch etc, and not too expensive either. I then just had some copper end tanks cut and modded to suit my intercooler hose placement, plus had some blocking plates soldered in to make the water cross back and forth across the rad.. I ran a 10" thermo engine side which ran constantly, and a switchable 10" on the front. With copiuos amounts of boost and 30 deg heat it wouldnt get above 84 degrees no matter how long it sat there. It was something i should of done much much earlier...........
Steve.

Nick,I think that something is seriously wrong with the cooling system that a fan isn't going to fix. Above 60 kph a fan doesn't do much in the way of cooling so if it's running hot above that there is another reason for the overheating. Even with no fan a cooling system shouldn't boil as the pressure system should hold the temp until well over 100c even when stopped. From normal temp (82c) you should have 5 minutes or so at idle before you hit 100c on a cooling system in good shape. You should be able to fit a coupling fan off an A/Cond equipped L20B/Stanza/180B. The 120mm pulley model should just fit with a triple core, as it does on a L series.I'd be checking all of the cooling related problem areas i.e. water pump, thermostat, head gasket, radiator & cap etc.regardsTerry

Subject: Z18ET Problems - help plz!!!

Hey list, as with the inevitable with buying a car i am having teething problems. Biggest being over heating. Tappet problem - solved, Sticking throttle - solved, Mod plate - coming!

What can i do to help with my heating problems - the boost is set to 7psi and it has no i/c - one wil b plumbed in asap. But my problem being it looks as thought the radiator is screwed - looks to b a triple core, forget what type. What are my COST effective (sorry on a very tight budget and time limit to get it fixed so it can pass the mod plate) The engine is getting very very hot - like extremely, wen driving - ok - due to airflow - but as soon as it is stopped it just boils. There are NO form of fans in it at present. Can i VERY temporarily put a fan on ? ie a pulley driven fan ? i am limited to a 35mm space between radiator and fan mount. What can i do ?! Thermos and a new radiator wil b goin in soon. - Also what type of raditor and thermos can i put in ? Pulsar ? and what type - also approx cost ?

All help greatly appreciated.Nick Hering
