Nick,

Nothing scientific with those numbers, I have just recalled them from 1600's
I've driven over the years and the approx flywheel hp. One that I forgot to
mention was a 1600GL BW Auto L16 which did 150kph with a 32/36 DGV on 100
RON and it sounded like it was going to grenade. Speeds can vary quite a bit
with weight which is the killer, wind direction also has a big influence and
down hill isn't counted, I wound a stock L16SSS 4 speed right off the clock
many years ago (when it was legal) down a mineshaft and both rear doors came
open on the safety catches so I had to give it away. Both my Stanzas (S1GX
and S2SSS) with 150hp L18BP/Weber fed engines but with quite different
gearing were 10 kph quicker on the flat than my 1600 with the same engine -
the 1600 is obviously is a bit bigger and heavier brick than a Stanza. Also
thing weren't all that equal as I recall, some of the speeds were done on
100 RON or Avgas.

regards
Terry

Terry,

of thing for my Stanza.

Top speed is 170-180Kph.
Cd and frontal area about the same as a Cortina.
Works out as about 70RWHp!

I assume that your figures are at the flywheel, but even still a RWD car
should only lose about 19% through the driveline.

I'd really like to think that I have a 150Hp motor.
What do you reckon, how did you arrive at your figures?
