Mark,

Yep, RM30 L24E alternator is one of the common replacements for a FJ20. The
problem is that with most models that use the Hitachi 60A alternator is that
they use a rib belt. You can change the pulley over on the alternator but
it's a hassle. Some ppl just use a common ole Bosch 55A usually off the S3
Bluey, but in my opinion they're a bit small for my liking with EFI, big
lights and a half decent sound system when it's raining but they work
without a bracket change, even the FJ adjuster works with this one and you
don't need the diode fitted in the Field wire to make the Ign light behave
as it should with the early to mid '71 model 1600 wiring. Lee & Thomas are
OK, Gibbsy would have known what you needed on the spot and probably had it
in stock - prices are about the same.

regards
Terry

Hmm, I'll take note of the recommd. Terry...I waited a week for Lee &
Thomas (Phillip) to source a replacement FJ alternator (left mine with
them) and needless to say the '85 Skyline one they got in was not close
enough but they were good enough swap my bracket, case and pulley wheel
over to solve the problem.
