A mate just fitted a CA18det into an MGF using a microtech which gives a
numerical read out of the A/F ratio and will also data log the figures.He also
had a jaycar type led meter both of which use narrow band sensors.Before we
started tuning we calibated it against his $10,000 workshop CO tester.We simply
held the motor at a constant rpm and adjusted the injector pulse width up and
down the scale and compared the numbers/lights so we knew where we were.The
numbers on the microtech were very accurate and after some adjusting of the pot
the jaycar sat smack in the middle while the others were on 14.7.We then did a
few hours of road tuning getting things right.With the data logging you can
check out any to rich and to lean spots compare them to the map/rpm and adjust
accordingly.The full boost runs were checking out well so it was time to hit the
dyno for some fine tuning for max torque.With the wide band ntk sensor in place
everything checked out the same as the microtech a/f readings.Dyno time was 1
hour and cost $70.The little beast made 214rwhp running 10-12 psi.The injector
duty cycle was nearly maxing out otherwise we would have put more boost into
it.The first run on the dyno with only street tuning we got 209rwhp.The only
mods to the motor was a t25g turbo with a hiflow t28 wheel and 20b
intercooler.The mg nuts nearly have a heart attack when they see a nissan motor
in an mg.Sorry to ramble on.
