The heavy cable from the boot to the starter
only. Take the power from there to the other power supply requirements.
You must also earth the starter motor body back to
the body shell with equally heavy cable, to ensure a good circuit at the starter
where big amps flow. The best route for the heavy cable is through the
interior and out though the firewall just above the steering column (where
the auto gear selector shaft goes on an auto). If your going this way, you can easily make it two shorter cables and put
in a battery kill switch under, or beside the driver's seat on the centre
tunnel. This kill switch allows you to disconnect power when you leave the
car to slow down car thieves. It is also a handy location to take off power for
things you dont want to kill, such as alarms, remotely operated devices
and timed devices.
The negative cable can be short and go to a
suitable bolt in the boot. Bolts that hold the fuel tank to the
inner guards are usually handy. Make sure the connection is clean and
secure, to ensure a good earth and no sparks. Sparks could be dangerous
around the fuel tank, which vents externally nearby.
