I think the Z24 turbo would be a great idea and pretty cheap to get together. As I posted a while ago a friend built a Z24 with L20b head (required some mods to mounts and sump to fit -its also wider than an L20) and it is a torque monster, a 'third gear anywhere car' and like any good Nissan engine is super reliable. I would think a built Z24 bottom with Z18 Turbo head with a mid size T3, T28 could give a later twin cam a run for the money. Horsepower is great to have but on the street torque is king (maybe :)
