Charlotte,   There is a route finder online which I've found to be a good guide i.e. fairly accurate - it has directions, timings are a little on the conservative side, ~20% high from my experiences. The timings do include recommended stopping times by the RAA and of course they also are calculated on you driving at the posted speed limits. It automatically picks the popular (may be the shortest?) route, so if you want to get timings, directions etc of another route then you have to break up the start and end points to force it to give you info on the way that you wish to go. eg it automatically picks the New England highway from Brisbane to Sydney, but if you wish to go via the Pacific highway you'd enter Brisbane to Port Macquarie, and then Port Macquarie to Sydney.   Now ppl on the list are going to write and say they've done Sydney to Brisbane in 10 hrs, and so have I, only stopping for petrol etc and sitting on 140 kph all the way and didn't get pulled over once.
