the good book of Nismo, FJ20DE 225mm also Z18ET, Z20, L20, L20ET, L24, L28,
CA20, CA18ET, VG20E, VG20ET. All these are 225mm
FJ20ET, VG30E, VG30ET, L28E all are 240mm clutch
plate

The
bad news is that an FJ20ET flywheel is ~298mm in diameter (across the
raised section, not the ring gear as that's larger still) and
the clutch is 240mm in diameter.
I
still can't pick what this one is off though, and I can't recall if the
early S12 FJ20E (non turbo) also has the 240mm clutch. Errol may
know?
I
haven't seen one of these engines for years and unless I was interested in it
for some reason I probably wouldn't have noticed anyway. One thing I do recall
about a FJ20E engine is that it has a vac advance unit on the dizzy and a pile
of hoses that the turbo doesn't have, so it could have used neutral & top
gear switches to control the advance unit if the ECU was fairly
primitive.
The
question is what Nissan engine has an 8 bolt crank and a 225mm
clutch?

Nice spotting of the switches, I have just
measured the clutch plate, it is approximately 225mm from end to end and the
flywheel measures around 285mm.

I've had another look at the pics of that box, funny how you see
things that you missed the first time round. The shifter doesn't tell me
that it's not an FJ box, what does though is the switches on the drivers
side. It has all 3 switches with connectors attached - i.e. neutral, top
gear and reverse lights. Now most engines with EFI and therefore an ECU,
don't have top gear and neutral switches as these are used to control
advance on a manual dizzy and they are (I wont say only) nearly always
only required with a carbie engine, and certainly they aren't used on a FJt.
Also the clutch and flywheel doesn't look like any FJt items that I've ever
seen, but I wont say that I know for sure what it's off
though.
What's the diameter of the clutch plate? There could be a few clues
there?

by the shifter pics, to me
it's looks like a stumpy skyline
box,
but when you seen the complete box it looks
like a CA20 5sp.
these are only guesses though
it's definetly not a CA18det box, doesn't
have the large rectangle shifter.

G'day,
Ive been search for an FJ20ET gearbox for
awhile, and i came across one for sale in the local classified paper,
and naturally i rang up, talked to the guy, he seemed decent told me
abit bout the history; it was recently used on a CA18DET but never ran
due to an unfinished project, and before that it was at the wreckors
from a S12 Silvia. It sounded all good, i made the purchase and went
off.
It came with a clutch and flywheel. As soon
as i get home, i took the flywheel, and attempted to fit it onto my fj20
block. It wouldn't fit on at all. The holes were slightly smaller then
the standard FJ20 flywheel bolts, and also, the holes do not align
perfectly. At this point im thinking, have i been mislead? Or are there
different sized flywheels for different FJ20's. Eg. my engine is a
skyline one, and this flywheel from a silvia version.
So much, to my confusion ive taken some pics and hopefully some
gearbox guru can put a possitive identification on this box i've just
bought.
Any help will be appreciated greatly.
