Finned alloy drums are pretty good as far as drums go, but they're still drums and inferior by a long way over a simple rear disc conversion like the R31. You may have guess that I hate drums even on a street car.

Can you still get those finned drums new? I was at a wrecking yard in Perth and spotted a pair on a 240Z, but the wrecker was very reluctant t to sell them to me.He reckoned that they were pretty hard to come by. I've seen lots of people racing 1600s with them on, they upgrade the front brakes with bigger and/or vented discs, and just bolt on the aluminium Z drums on the rear. Easier than the hassle of going to rear discs -although rear discs are the ultimate stopping option obviously.
