Mal,
    Bolt on.  I glued the hall sensor on an alluminium bracket I made and bolted the bracket through 2 timing cover bolts.  When the sensor is mounted you can then work out the position of the magnets.
 
ie, mount the sensor first ( allowing for adjustment as this sets the base timing)  then mark the pulley, remove the pulley. drill holes and glue in magnets.

To attach the pickup ??is it a bolt on or a weld on???
I have seen one set up like yours using motorbike bits and the pickup plate was welded on the timmimg cover.
 
Welded on means ,If I want your set up I'd have to post you my timming cover,cos its all been decked.
