But Datsun had a name for rusting, I'm guessing the reaction of majority
will be something about "rust bucket". They should bring out a limited
edition stainless steel datto.... *drool*

Actually cheap n nasty Datsuns (like 120Y, 180B, 200B) all seem to get
really bad dents in them... thats not a design fault. I think the rust was
partly a human produced thing too. If you leave any car in the sun, it will
wreck the window rubbers, and if you leave any car under trees, the leaves
will get inside the doors and front panels and start rusting away.

Just doing a bit of early morning 2 cent piecing.

Many car companies have developed new offshoot brands to cater for niche
markets. Toyota has Lexus, Mazda was pushing Eunos (I think) etc so it comes
as no surprise. Consider (Please consider....) that developing new brands is
a lot more expensive than reviving old ones. Nissan have done a smart thing,
maybe they are thinking of cashing in on past rally and racing
lories -nothing wrong with that, I just hope they think about creating a
new Turbo 4WD Datsun for the World Rally Circuit!!
  Datto lives again!!

  Cheers,

    Ozdators,

An interesting article from a Japanese website got sent to me today - it
looks like the real thing. The name DATSUN was as popular in Australia and
New Zealand as in any other countries - we should remind Mr Ghosn of that
fact.

The thing is do we want the Datsun name revived?

    Nissan to revive Datsun brand

    Wednesday, December 4, 2002 at 09:30 JST
TOKYO - Nissan Motor Co will revive its old brand, Datsun, at a
yet-to-be-decided time as it is an important asset, the major Japanese
automaker's president, Carlos Ghosn, said Tuesday.

Datsun was adopted by various Nissan cars in the 1960s, especially those
sold overseas, and became a popular brand particularly in the United States.
Currently, Nissan uses the brand only for a pickup truck model. (Kyodo News)
