Subject: RE: Engineers reports
Kris,
In
general, engineers reports that you get to keep are certified copies as the
original which is kept by the RTA in the State/Territory of issue. The main
problem from my experiences is that the reports seems to be only good for the
State that it was done in - I don't know how many interstate reg'd and
engineered cars I've seen get a rejection list as long as your arm in the ACT,
but in the case of NSW cars you can pick up whatever coloured slip it is for
roadworthy in Qbn - seen this often which makes you wonder. If it is
unregistered you have a real problem as it will require a full inspection and
if it's been unreg for some time, you'll get hit for a new plates issue as
well - before you buy, I'd pay the RTA for a permit to drive it to a testing
station or whatever you have where you are and get it inspected (also costs,
around $35-$50 in ACT) so you know what they have a problem with and
importantly you can work out what it is going to cost you to get a
slip.
The
worst thing that you can do in ACT is let your 30+ yo car rego expire,
and I imagine it's much the same in other states. At least we don't have to
get a RWC to sell the vehicle (presuming this still goes on in Vic)
We
don't seem to be much closer to a national standard in this
area.
regards
Terry
Hi All,
Just wondering
what is written on engineers reports when looking at buying a modified
car;
ie; What to be aware of so i don`t
get "tricked";
Does the
owner pass on the original and not a photocopy?
If the car is
unregistered, is it subject to the same procedure for re-rego for
non-engineered cars? etc etc.
Any help would be greatly
appreicated.
Thanks,
Kris.
