Really? and do the R31 discs and calipers just bolt on??

To R30 struts, yes so they tell me.

I have heard that R31 struts lower a 1600 by 2 inches with stock springs, is
that true for the R30 struts too?

An R31 strut is 10.25" or 26cm using the standard measure i.e. bottom weld of spring perch to top of balljoint housing which is the same as 200B, huge spring perch though.

Also do you recommend the upgrade? What engine are you running and are the
brakes adequate?

Any brake upgrade from stock on a 1600 is recommended unless your mother is the only one who drives it. Factor in the cost larger diameter wheels & tyres in the cost to fit the new brakes though.

regards

Terry
Thanks Thomas

Mark and Terry, I performed the r30 strut/r31 brake upgrade on my 1600 a few
weeks ago. The spring perches on an r30 strut are actually the same as on a
1600 strut and don't require modification. Thomas.
