Hi Tony DON"T DAMAGE THE CHROME STRIPS AT ALL!!! The chrome strips are really important to assist the screen seals to 'lie' in the right shape and with the correct 'tension'. Without them the corners or the screen seal will curl up and this will lead to leaks which leads to rust etc etc Also the chrome strips (undamaged) are really hard to acquire. The plastic replacement ones are expensive and look sh***y i reckon. The strips are actually supposed to slide into the channel or groove which is moulded into the rubber. In a new seal this is obviously a lot easier to do than with on old hard seal. esp if u lubricate with soapy water and stuff. My advice would be that if u are planning to replace the seals with new ones, then sacrifice the old rubbers and remove the chrome strips using TLC and a sharp blade. You have to be most careful not to bend or kink them cos it will be almost impossible to remove dents or kinks. Having said all that, as Andrew Greenbury (hi Andrew yes i'm still here - just) and I found out a little while ago there are at least 2 different styles of chrome strips for 1600's (surprised me) so looking after what u have would seem to be a smart move. I do have a supply of 1600 body seal rubbers and seals at very competitive prices - email me off list for details. It seems the Ozdat classys don't like my ad for some reason... Sorry for being so long winded but water leaks into 1600's is the primary cause of all of us chasing rust so i reckon its worth keeping them well sealed cheers Mick www.datsun1600.freeservers.com 0408 051020 ----- Original Message ----- From: "Tony Bryant" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Tuesday, March 04, 2003 6:27 PM Subject: 1600 windscreen seal anatomy
