Andrew, We use a special minituarised version of the SMC where I work. I also have an SMC and the Autronics CDI unit to fit to my FJ20t in my 1600. They are a great computer and quite easy to tune once you get the hang of it. I have had no problems at all with the Autronics and the forum at www.autronic.com is a great source of info. They are easily as good as a M4 Motec and a big step above Wolf/Microtech/link etc. You can also data log to a laptop to get a good look at how the tune is performing on the road/track. It will happily run a big grunt CA without a problem and they are quite good at controlling large injectors at small duty cycles. Laptop tuning only which is great as I don't want or need a Gameboy hand controller in my car. I personally think a hand controller is a bit of a wank. If your tune is right it should be a set and forget part of the car. There are plenty of really good tuners for Autronics in NSW too. You can also set a lot of limp mode items as such where the ecu pulls out boost or timing if the coolant or air intake temps get to high. All in all a top of the line system though designed more for racers than the street car scene. I would not hesitate to recomend them to anyone who wants a serious ecu. I have played with Power FC's, Microtech, Wolf, and a modded Delco and none match the Autronic. You should also be able to download the latest software from the above site. $1500 is also a great price especially if it is the autotune version. If not it is still a good price. Any SMC can be upgraded to Autotune for around $250 which autotunes the fuel map when used in conjunction with an Autronic Wide range Air/Fuel meter. With this function you set your spark and it autotunes the fuel to a preset A/F ratio that you determine. Greatly reduces tuning costs. Jake
