Mark, My work uses autronics and I have spoken to the designer about passwords. Apparently there is a master password or jumpers you can short but to clear the password this way you loose your map as well. Most tuners put passwords on to stop people downloading the maps and passing/selling them to other people. The argument about passwords is a difficult one as no two tuners will come up with the same map and it is well known that some tuners are a lot better than others. Most people I know of use the same tuner all the time and consider the map a set and forget part of the car. So there theory is they pay for a quality map and don't want to fiddle with it themselves, they get the experts to do that job for a reason. On the other hand having done a bit of tuning myself I like to be able to fine tune a map in the case of mods after the map like exhaust changes or running some good fuel (103+ octane elf etc). Other than circumstances like those I think a good map should not need changing unless the mechanical spec changes. There are plenty of tuners around who wont password your ecu, you just need to check this before you commit and make sure you find a tuner you think will do a good job. Jake
