Yeah, pumping the accelerator sounds like a good idea as well, it would make the mixture nice and rich. When you turn the key off it just stops burning that nice explosive fuel/air mixture in the cylinder, instead dumps it straight into the exhaust, and when you turn it back on it ignites it all. Boom.
