Dave,

My young bloke has ex police 5ltr VN Commondore (yeah I know I will have to
wash my mouth out with numerous large glasses of port) Had same sort of
problem. I found a cut in the crank angle sensor wire that some dickhead
had twitched & taped up. Loose joint would just lose contact. I don't
know how many times I pulled that friggen' thing apart before I found it.
Several mechanics couldn't find it as the joint was covered. Was just a
fluke that I saw the joint come apart when checking the wires. New hard
joint fixed the problem for some time. Began cutting out again, but this
time the ignition module itself was becoming VERY hot. A new module in
this morning & all seems well after a 200 or so k's.
This cutout would be very inconsistant. Could stop twice in 15 minutes,
then go ok for a couple of days.
Hope this helps.

I'm not saying that fuel problems can't produce weird symptoms, but this
problem is very sudden if you like. For example, I was driving around the
city last night, the car went fine for 30-35 minutes, then just died. It
really didn't want to start or do anything. It would fire and then just
die no matter what you did with the throttle. So what i'm saying is that
its inconsistent. So what i'm asking is:

What the hell changes after about 30 mins of driving? Something is
happening about that time which it doesn't like. The missus and I were on
our way to the ball and we were late already. We ended up walking about 7
city blocks in the freezing wind with her in heels. Hehe.. boy was I
popular.
