Thanks for that, that ammount of play is about what I thought, though I
didnt know about them coking up.

Also, what are some suggestions for how people fit a return line to a
motor that was originally NA? I have heard that there are adaptors
available for some oil filters that fit between the filter and the block
that have a return and a feed, I am guessing that they would normally be
for running an oil cooler? (I am not going to say what motor it is for,
for fear of being heckled, but it is not a brand I would bother with.)
