Actually, i'm a bit suss on these new cars. How's this for a conspiracy theory:   Take for instance a brand new commodore. The car is programmed to tell you when to take it in for a service, and a little spanner comes up on the dashboard until it gets to the mechanic and is zapped with the gizmo to say "Yes it's been serviced" What's to stop the car manufacturers from programming the car to run like crap when it's in need of service, and once the gizmo is plugged in, the car goes back to running perfectly. They simply change the oil, filters, etc..
