Thanks heaps for that Terry...
I actually got my car back on the road... After
ringing up the vicroads office they told me that an engineer is only required if
a RWC place thinks its unsafe or needed. I simply took my car to another RWC
place and it passed without anything needed to be done!!
Anyway I'll archive this email incase I ever need
to get my car fully engineered. Thanks for the reply.
I think mine would be fine anyway, its not
ridiculously low. And I'm using king springs which you would assume would be
legal.

The
standard ground clearance for a 70-72 1600 Aussie Production model was 7.5" or
19.05cm and from what I know that is taken at the front x-member. Also, when I
got mine engineered (in ACT) it was measured in the same place but minimum
clearance was 10cm (4") no matter what it was stock. I'm sure engineers make
up their own rules to piss us off.
Here's the National Rules out of the book:
Lowering or Raising of Vehicles
The road clearance of a motor car must
not be less than 100mm measured at any
part of the vehicle other than the wheel rim
or brake backing plates. (This does not apply where a lesser clearance has been specified by the
manufacturer.) When lowering or raising
a vehicle body (front or rear):
� the
suspension travel in the bump or rebound mode must not be altered by more than one-third of that
specified by the
manufacturer;
� coil
springs are to remain in locating seats on full
suspension droop without forcibly being removed.
In addition, the normal relationship
between the front and rear suspension
heights must not be unduly affected.
Suspension coil springs must not be shortened by cutting. Leaf spring suspensions must not be raised by
the use of extended shackles or
adjustable metal plates. If lowering
blocks are used, they must be either steel or
aluminium.

Hi guys,
I recently got done by the cops and need to get
my car roadworthy. This also indirectly means I need an engineers. The
engineer has told me that my car cant be too low. It must not have more then
2" less travel than the original 1600. He asked me to get some standard
figures for this.
Does anyone know what the standard ride height
for a datsun 1600. I have fitted lowered king springs on the front and rear.
with 240k struts. Does anyone know what diff this will be to my ride
height?
Whats the best way to measure the height? from
the ground to the sill?
Also I am getting my engine/brakes and seats
listed on the engineers, anything else I should be thinking
about??
