Thanks Richard,
Some of the photos on the page don't have larger versions. I just checked the page myself and they all seemed to work. Can you tell me which ones did not work?
I didn't reroute the oil drain hole. I have had the rocker cover off a couple of times and inspected it. A little oil pools there and sometimes some oil spits out the cover vent, which is right above the blocked drain! I am going to need to address that. Apart from that, I don't see it as any limitation. I don't think Z-series engines had this drain hole.

Just checked out your web page story on the KA head conversion for your L20B
Turbo.
A great report on the trials and errors to make it so much easier for the
next traveller down this path. Couldn't get the last few photos. Are they
up on the site?

Brilliant engineering work Zac! Tell us how it goes when you're regularly
using the engine. In particular how the engine temp holds with the water
jacket changes.

How have you rerouted the oil return after welding the oil hole in the head?

Dont worry about those uninformed persons who were more interested in the
bolt in turbo power upgrades, the really knowledgable people would
appreciate the innovation in your approach.

Santa blessed me with a new digital camera this Xmas so I have been able
to finish the webpage on the KA24 head conversion.

Hopefully it explains thoroughly all the fuckups involved in the head
conversion :)

oh, and let's get some chatter on this list! :)

OK, a few of you know of my bastardised L20b engine...
Well it hit the chassis dyno today for the very first time. Mucked
around with niggles and tuning for a few hours then knuckled down for a
good power run. It churned out 130kw at the wheels on 16psi! Something
in the wastegate was stopping it from controlling boost so it spiralled
to 16psi - not that that was a problem, tough ol' L20b took it all :)
The tuner did about a dozen full power runs upto 16psi but the poor
boost control and some other stuff stopped us from going too much
further. It doesn't have an intercooler so intake temps were right up
there. In the end I walked away with a sound base map and a result far
above my initial expectations.
Of course this doesn't happen on any ordinary L20b, I've fitted a KA24E
TRX head and made the few other modifications to make this work. The
dead stock bottom end and KA24 head combo can rev to 7000rpm quite

easily.

Here is an engine bay photo:

Here is the dyno vid!

I'm still working on a page with a thorough walk through of the

conversion.
