I had this happen once whilst doing the Mt Cotton Hillclimb.
The problem ended up being where the linkage passes through the fire wall
a small nut was catching on the fire wall & not returning the pedal back.
wakes you up doesnt it :)

Subject: Accelerator peddle stuck while driving

I thought i would get out my stock 1600 out of the gaurage on saturday arvo and go for a cruse down the road. I drove out onto the asphalt and opened it up. As i came to one of the 90 degree bends near my joint the accelerator peddle stuck to the floor and opened it up. I nealy died as i was quite close and grabed a foot full of clutch not thinking anything of it which made it rev SO HARD ha ha. I turned  it off which downed the speed and i took the corner ok but it dosent handle real well being 1 owner grandma stock.  It put the wind up me thats for sure.
