Hi all,
Why is this datsun model not a popular?
This is going to be a little longer. I need any bit of
advice that you might have. I am a Datsun Enthusiast.
I am from Kenya in East Africa. There is no Datsun
club around here. Very few guys are restoring Datsuns.
For this reason itÂ’s very hard to get Datsun parts.
I own a Datsun 160J (PA10), I acquired this car a year
and a half ago and I use it as my daily driver. I have
never experienced any major break down to dispose it
and runs well and I love it.
I have done a few changes especially the paint work. I
have also tried to convert it to EFI which failed
terribly for a couple of reasons:-
1. I did not want to do the whole engine transplant; I
only wanted to swap the Cylinder head and the manifold
(Had just done reboring of the stock) I think the
camber for the EFI head (A87) is larger than the L16
can handle. Even with the carb, the A87 head had no
power on the L16. (The A87 was from an L18). My
cylinder head is W53
2. The fuel system was failing after engine running
for a while. This I attributed to the fuel regulator
which I think was messed up.
3. Distributor. I was still using contact points (not
electronic).
4. Time. I did not have enough time for the project to
check everything at a closer range.
Well I decided to shelf the EFI conversion project
until later.
This though does not prevent me from making my drive
more enjoyable by improving things like suspension,
brakes, engine power, etc
1. I start with suspension, I cannot get original coil
springs and shock absorbers for Datsun 160J (Violet)
PA10 here, what is the alternative? (Both front and
rear). I prefer straight bolt up without any
modifications. The front brake pads make a clicking
noise while driving as if loose. Why?
2. What are the best spark plugs to use?
3. Which is the best Ignition coil to use?
4. Am intending to convert to electronic ignition, am
still weighing between Pertronix (# 1741) and the one
that came with a Nissan truck (not sure about the
model but maybe 720, it was known as Sahara around
here)
Last but very big, the EFI A87 head and W53 head are
very similar except that the EFI A87 head holds the
EFI intake with fewer bolts on the top side than the
carb intake.
Question: Can the W53 be modified to take the EFI
intake? Make bore the injectors notches and the bolt
hole between the existing ones without any major
repercussions?
Thank you
Antony
