I think it's the quality of the product and marketing to give success to a

Consider the Apple iPhone, it has broad appeal including young people, geeks,
business people, male, female. The design of the phone and the OS is not
gimicky but minimal and stylish. This isn't an accident it is the result of
thoughtful design by experts. (I don't even like Apple, just recognise good
design)
You don't consider an apple with a bite on it embarrassing enough?-) I'm just
teasing. I personally see nothing wrong with animal related logos (like
Firefox and the like).
