Ah, NetBeans. I just downloaded it to try it out again... and I remembered why I hate using Java apps on the Mac:
- None of the keyboard shortcuts work the same way (ie pressing enter in a file list doesn't open a file, apple up arrow doesn't go up a folder, etc. When editing text, you can't use option - arrows to move between words, and apple to move to beginning and end of line, etc.) - It's slow and clunky. - Everything looks slightly retarded. The icons don't render properly. Things obviously haven't been designed with the Apple UI guidelines (ie text sometimes appears really close to lines, etc.) - Textmate has code completion (called Snippets). Dudes, I'd buy a Mac just for the sheer productivity gains it yields for me when editing text, and navigating the tasks you have to do to do development. It's THAT worth it. And yes, I use PC's with Windows and various flavours of Linux (over 12 years) and I am VERY well versed in the keyboard shortcuts that are possible with windows and Linux. Julian.
