1500 will get you a jalopy 240d that looks fair, meaning don't expect too
much. A good example in nice condition can pull in 3k. Spectacular ones
have gone for well over 4k. Diesels are back in demand and thus prices have
been going up steadily for over a year. I get more phone calls from folks
seeking nice examples of MB diesels than I do for any other car, currently.

The 240d is a special case. People who really want a 240d, and I mean REALLY
want one, want nothing else. And in my experience they will pay top dollar
for a really nice car that has been kept up, or has had real money put into
its refurbishment (and I mean refurb, not detailing and a can of purge).
Tastes may change, fads may come and go, but a good 240d is worth more than
an average 300sd, probably more than even a good SD.
