After evaluating the slide hammer, I realized that it was 3 pounds, not five,
so we added a bunch of wire to it and that really didn't help. So with a 10-12
lb tranny cluster gear and a 1/2 steel bar (3 feet long), we constructed the
MOTHER OF ALL SLIDE HAMMERS. Prechamber came out in less than 10 slides.

UNFORTUNATELY, the prechamber does NOT seem cracked, so the search
continues...WHY oh WHY does this 603 run like crap until it really warms
up....tons of smoke, lots of noise, missing on cylinder #6. (FYI, timing chain
is OK, injector timing is OK, compression is OK, injectors are rebuilt (but not
balanced), glow plugs all work great). I am stumped.

By the way, what should the prechamber look like inside? This one has a coating
of carbon, but the holes are all clear. Also, it looks like the little ball can
be tapped out the side of the prechamber...should that be done to inspect for
cracks? The FSM says nothing about doing that.

Thanks y'all.

Chris

Oh -- he offered the usual $500 several times - my son is determined
to make it "right" though.
