For me once the tire is so bad the FF doesn't help it the rest of the mower is falling apart so bad its time to spend another $50... I'm an absolute bottom feeder for mowers. The mower at camp is a Montgomery-Ward Powr-Kraft that I got for free from my father-in-law for getting it out of his garage. Its a poor mower but the motor on it is fantastic. I'm now on the lookout for a better mower of the same size class (38" cut, 10 or 11hp) that I can transfer the motor into. I don't expect (or am willing) to pay more than $25.
At home I've got an early '60s ('64? I forget) Snapper RER (rear engine rider) that was my great uncles that has zero compression. I bought another with a bad carb (but loads of compression) for $25 and I intend to move the motor over. The newer one is dumb looking and has no class, the old one is awesome looking but beat. The motor, tires and drive disk from the new one will make it a good mower. I like the RERs because they're stupid simple. -Curt Date: Tue, 26 May 2009 14:12:48 -0700 From: Alex Chamberlain <apchamberl...@gmail.com> Subject: Re: [MBZ] 'Nother OT - slimed tires To: Mercedes Discussion List <mercedes@okiebenz.com> Message-ID: <f7b6bd1a0905261412x4f2dba8ak6c566607e0dbd...@mail.gmail.com> Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1 On the subject of Slime, my used riding lawnmower came with a tire (one of the big ones in back) apparently pre-Slimed by the previous owner. It was flat at the start of mowing season this year and I pumped it up, but noticed when I tried to check the pressure that the valve left green gunk on the fitting on the pressure gauge. This brings to mind a couple of questions: - Can you re-Slime tires that have already been Slimed once? - When do you give up and get new ones already? - Isn't getting a lawnmower tire on and off the rim supposed to be a huge pain in the you-know-what? - Did I ruin my favorite tire pressure gauge by putting it on the valve stem of a Slimed tire? (I.e. is the gauge now clogged with Slime and damaged in some way? It still seems to work.) Alex -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
