Your grandson probably isn't challenged enough in high school but I'm not 100% sure thats a terrible thing. High school, contrary to some isn't all about learning facts and schooling and whatnot, its largely about learning how to be a person and deal with other people, some of whom (maybe many of whom) you don't like and really don't want to be around. Theres also a lot of learning how to learn which in itself is a useful skill.

College is where you need to actually learn how to do things. Its like the difference between basic training and the advanced schools in the military. Basic training teaches you how to be a soldier (emphasis on you, not me) but its the advanced schools that make soldiers useful in their given field.

It all starts at home on or at Mommy's and Daddy's knees. Number 1 grandson
just graduated from public high school # 8 or so in class of 300. All of
his classes for last year and half have been "advanced placement" - college
credit, and he's gotten straight A's. 'Til coupla years ago, I'd often pick
him up at school in the afternoons. Many times, he got in the car extremely
frustrated/exasperated at having to waste so much time in class waiting for
so many who don't seem to care. I'd ask, "What's wrong?" He'd answer, "You
just would not believe the stupidity walking around this campus." I
replied, "Oh, I bet I would."
We always agreed, of course, that he'd do well, anyway, and take care of his
work and do it well day-by-day regardless of so many of his classmates and
their families and their parents who don't seem to care.

BTW, though, we're Protestant, he went to a strict Catholic school through
eighth grade; I privately called him the "token Protestant."
