Gary -
The trouble is likely just that the belt has a fold in it and may be jammed
just behind where it goes into the panel. You could take the panel off and
inspect the "run" of the belt. The belts are getting pretty supple after all
these years and I have to be very careful when I unlatch my belts or they
will fold over a bit and stick in the belt guide just where it goes into the
panel. Do you have a copy of the manual? It shows how to remove the panel
and get to the seatbelt retractor. I remember someone on one of the lists
that had dismantled and lubed the retractor. BTW, I recently asked Randy
about a replacement belt for my 107 and if memory serves me they were about
$190 per side. If yours is really bad you can alternatively call Nick for a
good used replacement. Nick specializes in 107 parts.

Subject: [MBZ] Seat belt problem

The seat belt on my 79 450SL will no longer pull out from the pillar
behind the drivers seat. Are these things fixable (I know how to get to
the reel unit) or should I be looking for a replacement reel? If they
can be fixed, I'd appreciate any tips.
